Description

This Spicy Dumpling Soup is a comforting and flavorful dish featuring homemade pork dumplings cooked in a savory and slightly spicy chicken broth with mushrooms and fresh spinach. Perfect for a hearty meal ready in just 45 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Dumplings

  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup finely chopped green onions
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 package dumpling wrappers

Soup

  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon chili paste
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 2 cups spinach

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, finely chopped green onions, minced garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Mix everything well to create a flavorful and cohesive filling.
  2. Fill the dumplings: Take a single dumpling wrapper and place a small spoonful of the pork filling in the center of the wrapper. Be careful not to overfill to enable proper sealing.
  3. Seal the dumplings: Moisten the edges of the dumpling wrapper with water using your fingers, then carefully fold the wrapper over the filling to form a half-moon shape. Press the edges firmly to seal the dumpling completely.
  4. Repeat forming dumplings: Continue this process with the remaining wrappers and filling until all dumplings are formed.
  5. Prepare the broth: In a large pot, bring the chicken broth to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Add the chili paste and rice vinegar, stirring well to incorporate the flavors evenly.
  6. Cook the dumplings: Carefully add the prepared dumplings into the simmering broth. Cook them for approximately 8 minutes or until they float to the surface, indicating they are fully cooked.
  7. Add vegetables: Add the sliced mushrooms and fresh spinach to the pot. Cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes until the vegetables are tender but still vibrant.
  8. Serve: Ladle the hot soup with dumplings and vegetables into bowls. Serve immediately for a warm and satisfying meal.

Notes

  • If you prefer a milder soup, reduce the amount of chili paste or omit it completely.
  • For a vegetarian version, substitute ground pork with tofu or a plant-based protein and use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth.
  • Be sure to seal dumplings tightly to prevent filling from escaping during cooking.
  • Leftover dumplings can be frozen uncooked and cooked directly from frozen by adding a couple more minutes to cooking time.
  • Adjust the seasoning of the broth with additional soy sauce or salt to taste if desired.
