Ingredients
Scale
Pizza Dough
- 1 pound pizza dough
Toppings
- 2 medium fresh lemons, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup crumbled feta cheese
- ¼ cup fresh basil or oregano, chopped
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) to ensure it is hot enough to produce a crispy crust.
- Prepare Dough: Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface into a circle about 12 inches in diameter, making sure the thickness is even for uniform cooking.
- Garlic Olive Oil: In a small bowl, mix the minced garlic with the extra virgin olive oil. Brush this mixture generously over the rolled out dough to infuse it with a rich garlic flavor.
- Add Lemon Slices: Layer the thinly sliced lemons evenly on top of the garlic oil brushed dough, distributing them so every bite has fresh lemon zest.
- Cheese and Herbs: Sprinkle the crumbled feta cheese evenly on top of the lemon slices, then scatter the fresh chopped basil or oregano over the pizza. If desired, sprinkle the red pepper flakes for a subtle heat.
- Bake Pizza: Place the prepared pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and crispy and the cheese is slightly melted.
- Serve: Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool slightly for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm to enjoy the fresh, bright flavors.
Notes
- For an extra crispy crust, bake the pizza on a preheated pizza stone or baking steel if available.
- If fresh lemons are very tart, you can rinse lemon slices briefly under cold water to reduce bitterness.
- Fresh herbs can be substituted or combined as per your preference, such as substituting oregano for basil or adding thyme.
- Red pepper flakes are optional but add a nice mild heat that complements the lemon’s acidity.
- Ensure pizza dough thickness is not too thin to avoid sogginess from the lemon slices.
