Cupcake Batter

Instructions
- Prepare the Cupcake Batter: In a large mixing bowl, cream together 1/2 cup softened unsalted butter and 1 cup granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture alternately with 1/2 cup milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
- Bake the Cupcakes: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 12-cup muffin pan with cupcake liners. Divide the batter evenly among the cups, filling each about two-thirds full. Bake for 15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven and allow the cupcakes to cool completely on a wire rack before frosting.
- Prepare the Buttercream Frosting: In a bowl, beat 1 cup softened unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add 4 cups powdered sugar, mixing well after each addition. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1/4 cup milk, beating until the frosting is smooth and fluffy. If desired, tint portions of the frosting with food coloring for decoration.
- Decorate the Cupcakes: Once the cupcakes are completely cool, frost each with a generous amount of buttercream using a spatula or piping bag. Place one graduation cap on top of each cupcake and add a miniature diploma next to it. Serve immediately or store in a cool place until ready to enjoy.
