Description

This creamy and flavorful Boursin Orzo Bake combines tender orzo pasta with herb and garlic Boursin cheese, fresh spinach, juicy cherry tomatoes, and a touch of Parmesan. Baked to perfection with Italian seasoning and olive oil, it makes a comforting and elegant vegetarian main dish or side perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Orzo and Broth

  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 2 cups vegetable broth

Cheese and Vegetables

  • 1 cup Boursin cheese (herb & garlic flavor)
  • 1 cup spinach, chopped
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Seasonings and Garnish

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it reaches the perfect temperature for baking.
  2. Cook the Orzo: In a medium saucepan, bring the vegetable broth to a boil. Add the orzo pasta and cook until al dente, about 8-10 minutes according to package instructions. Once cooked, drain the orzo and set aside.
  3. Mix Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked orzo, Boursin cheese, chopped spinach, halved cherry tomatoes, and grated Parmesan cheese. Stir thoroughly to evenly distribute the Boursin cheese and blend all ingredients.
  4. Season and Add Olive Oil: Drizzle the olive oil over the mixture, then season with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper to taste. Mix well to incorporate the oil and seasoning evenly throughout the mixture.
  5. Transfer to Baking Dish: Grease a baking dish and spread the orzo mixture evenly inside, making sure it is well distributed for even baking.
  6. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top turns slightly golden and the bake is heated through.
  7. Serve and Garnish: Remove the dish from the oven and allow it to cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired for an aromatic and colorful finishing touch.

Notes

  • You can substitute spinach with kale or Swiss chard for a different leafy green option.
  • For a non-vegetarian version, cooked shredded chicken can be added to the mixture before baking.
  • To enhance the golden top, you may sprinkle additional Parmesan cheese before baking.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
  • For a gluten free version, use gluten free orzo pasta.
